Wealthsimple Tax not working: fixes for loading, saving and submitting
Short answer
When Wealthsimple Tax is not working, the cause is usually one of three things: a browser problem (cookies, extensions, a VPN or a wrong computer clock), unresolved errors in Review & Optimize that block the submit button, or a rejection sent back by the CRA's NETFILE service. Each has a different fix, and only the last one can lock your NETFILE access if you keep retrying.

Why is Wealthsimple Tax not working?
Wealthsimple Tax is web-based software, so there is nothing to reinstall. If Wealthsimple Tax is not working, sort the symptom into one of three groups first: the page will not load or save, the submit button does nothing or is blocked, or the CRA rejects the return after you send it.
The first group is fixed in your browser or device. The second is fixed inside the return. The third needs you to read the CRA's message carefully, because some codes can be corrected and resent while others mean the return has to go by mail.
Wealthsimple Tax not loading or not saving
A page that spins, logs you out or loses entries is almost always a browser or network issue. Wealthsimple's own saving checklist covers the same ground, and it works in this order:
- Clear the browser cache and cookies, then sign in again.
- Open a private or incognito window to rule out stored data.
- Turn off browser extensions, especially ad blockers and privacy tools.
- Switch to another supported browser: Chrome 90 or later, Firefox 78 or later, Safari 13 or later, or Edge 88 or later.
- Check that your computer's clock is correct. Wealthsimple says a clock set in the future interferes with its sign-in checks.
- Turn off any VPN, then try a different network or restart the router (unplug it for at least 30 seconds).
- Try another device, such as a tablet or a family member's computer.
Wealthsimple lists Opera, the Android Browser, BlackBerry, Chrome before version 62, Firefox before version 57 and Internet Explorer before version 11 as unsupported. On a phone, the Wealthsimple app needs iOS 16.4 or later, or Android 10 or later.
Last resort: start the return over
If one return still will not save after all of that, Wealthsimple offers a Start over option under Documents, then Tax returns, next to the affected return. This clears every entry for that year, so download a PDF of what you have first and treat it as a final step.
Why can't I submit my return in Wealthsimple Tax?
Wealthsimple Tax will not let you submit while any error remains in Review & Optimize. Errors show with a red sidebar, and a red number beside a section name in the left menu means that section has missing or conflicting entries.
- Open the Submit section of your tax profile and select Review & Optimize.
- Work through the Errors list. Use Fix it where it appears; otherwise confirm or correct the entry it names.
- Delete any section with a red number that does not apply to you, such as a slip you added by mistake.
- Run Review & Optimize again after each change so the list refreshes.
- When no errors remain, select Go to submit, then Submit tax return.
- Pick a plan, agree to the NETFILE terms and select Submit.
Warnings and suggestions do not block submission, but read them. The Basic plan covers accounts sending two returns or fewer, and you can enter a $0 contribution.
Trying to file an older year?
As of 2026, Wealthsimple Tax no longer supports submissions for tax years before 2023. For 2018 to 2022 returns, which NETFILE still accepts in the 2026 season, you need another certified product or a paper return.
What a Wealthsimple Tax return error from the CRA means
Once you submit, a failure message comes from the CRA, not from Wealthsimple. Wealthsimple groups these into three kinds: an information mismatch, a general submission problem, and a numbered error with a description.
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| There was a problem submitting your return | Usually busy CRA servers | Wait a few hours and submit again |
| N1 | Name, SIN, birth date, entry date or first-time filer answer does not match CRA records | Correct the details to match your SIN letter or CRA records; mail the return if it persists |
| Result code 15, account locked | Your NETFILE access is locked, not your CRA My Account | Only the CRA can lift the lock; otherwise print and mail |
| 2197 | RRSP unused contributions do not match the CRA's figure | Fix and ReFILE the earlier year, then file the current one |
| 2515 | T4FHSA box 36 is larger than boxes 32 plus 34 | NETFILE will not accept it; print and mail |
| 95365 | Rounding on T3 amounts; the CRA made system changes on April 7, 2025 | Resubmit once; see Wealthsimple's workaround if it repeats |
Wealthsimple notes that N1 and 2515 are not Wealthsimple faults: every certified product gets the same result for the same data. The full list of CRA codes is on the NETFILE error codes hub, and NETFILE error N1 walks through the identity check in detail.
Why repeated attempts make it worse
Several failed submissions on the same error can lock your NETFILE access, and the lock applies in every certified product until the CRA lifts it. Make one careful attempt after each correction. If the filing deadline is close and the error will not clear, print the return from Wealthsimple Tax and mail it.
Import and Auto-fill problems
If the trouble starts earlier, when you pull slips from the CRA, the cause is usually timing or the CRA sign-in window rather than the tax software. Wealthsimple Tax Auto-fill not working covers ERR.082, blocked pop-ups and slips that arrive blank.
Wealthsimple Tax cannot read another company's return file. If you are moving over from Intuit's product, see Wealthsimple Tax import from TurboTax for the carry-forward amounts to enter by hand.
Is Wealthsimple Tax down, or is it just me?
Try the same sign-in on a second device and network. If both fail, the problem is on the service side and waiting is the only fix. If one works, the issue is local to the first device, so return to the browser checklist above.
Outside NETFILE's service window, submissions cannot go through in any product. For the current season, NETFILE runs from February 23, 2026 to January 29, 2027. The 2027 opening date for 2026 returns has not been announced; watch when Wealthsimple Tax will be available for the new edition. For other certified products and their problems, see the Canadian tax software hub.
Common questions
Why does Wealthsimple Tax keep logging me out?
Check your computer's clock first; Wealthsimple says a clock set ahead of the real time breaks its sign-in checks. Then clear cookies, disable extensions and turn off any VPN.
Why is the submit button greyed out in Wealthsimple Tax?
At least one error remains in Review & Optimize or a section in the left menu shows a red number. Clear or delete those entries, run Review & Optimize again, then use Go to submit.
I paid for Wealthsimple Tax. Does that mean my return was filed?
No. Wealthsimple says a plan payment or contribution receipt is not confirmation. Look for the CRA confirmation number after you submit.
What does There was a problem submitting your return mean in Wealthsimple Tax?
Wealthsimple says it usually means the CRA's servers are busy. Wait a few hours and submit again rather than retrying repeatedly.
Can Wealthsimple Tax file my 2021 return?
No. Wealthsimple Tax no longer supports submissions for tax years before 2023, so use another certified product or file on paper for 2021.
Who can reopen my NETFILE access if Wealthsimple Tax shows code 15?
Only the CRA can lift a NETFILE lock; Wealthsimple has no access to CRA systems. If the lock cannot be lifted in time, print and mail the return.
