TaxSlayer error code 0622: extra identity verification

Short answer

TaxSlayer error code 0622, shown as "Something doesn't look right," means TaxSlayer wants one more identity verification step to protect the account (TaxSlayer help center, updated September 17, 2026). It is not an IRS rejection and editing the return will not clear it. Contact TaxSlayer support by phone, email or chat and ask for a verification link.

What is TaxSlayer error 0622?

TaxSlayer error code 0622 is an account security hold, not a problem with your numbers. TaxSlayer's help article says that, for the 2025 tax year, code 0622 with the message "Something doesn't look right" means an additional identity verification step is needed to protect the account.

In plain terms, TaxSlayer's systems paused the account until a person confirms you are the owner. Because the hold sits on the account rather than on a form, reloading the page, clearing the cache or rechecking your W-2 will not remove it. Only the verification step does.

How do you fix TaxSlayer error 0622?

TaxSlayer's instruction is short: reach out to support by phone, email or chat and ask for a verification link to be sent to you. The steps below put that into order so the request is handled on the first contact.

  1. Write down the exact message and the code 0622, plus the screen you were on when it appeared.
  2. Sign in and open the Help & Support tab in the top right of the program. Click Continue from Tax Home if you do not see it.
  3. Choose email, phone or chat. TaxSlayer lists chat only for the Premium and Self-Employed packages; everyone gets phone and email.
  4. Say you received error code 0622 and are requesting the identity verification link.
  5. Watch the email address on the account, including the spam folder. The link can only go to the contact details on file.
  6. Complete the verification in one sitting, then return to the E-File section and finish filing.

TaxSlayer has not published how fast the 0622 link arrives. For comparison only, its separate account recovery process says its verification link arrives within about 24 hours, must be opened within 48 hours and must be finished within 30 minutes once started. Plan for a similar window rather than same-minute service.

What not to do

  • Do not open a second TaxSlayer account to get around the hold. Nothing TaxSlayer publishes says that works, and its help center separately documents an "SSN has already been used" warning at account creation.
  • Do not send your full Social Security number or bank details in an ordinary email reply.
  • Do not follow a verification link that arrives from an address you do not recognize. Sign in by typing the TaxSlayer address yourself and confirm the request through Help & Support.

Is error 0622 an IRS reject code?

No. IRS reject codes are business rules with letters and numbers, such as IND-031-04 for a prior-year AGI mismatch, and they reach you after the IRS reviews a transmitted return. Code 0622 comes from TaxSlayer itself and can stop you before the return is transmitted at all.

That difference matters for deadlines. Under IRS Publication 1345, the five-day grace period for correcting and resending a rejected e-file only applies to a return first transmitted on or before the due date. A return held by 0622 has not been transmitted, so the grace period does not start.

What about TaxSlayer error codes 0623 and 0510?

As of September 19, 2026, TaxSlayer's help center has no article explaining error code 0623 or error code 0510. A search of its knowledge base for each number returns only the 0622 article and unrelated pages. We will not guess at a meaning TaxSlayer has not published.

What you can do is work out which kind of code you have. TaxSlayer shows two very different kinds of four-digit numbers, and the fix depends on which one it is.

Is it a state reject code instead?

Several states use plain numbers for their own reject codes. TaxSlayer publishes articles for examples such as Minnesota reject codes 0014 and 0524, New Jersey codes 051 and 052, and Nebraska NEGeneral-0002. If your number arrived in an email saying your state return was rejected, or appears under Fix Return next to the state, treat it as a state rejection and follow the steps in TaxSlayer rejected return.

If the number appeared on screen while signing in, paying or signing the return, and nothing has been sent, it is a TaxSlayer program code. Contact support with the exact number, since TaxSlayer says its team uses error codes to tell a payment, account or processing fault apart.

When should you contact TaxSlayer, and when should you switch?

Contact TaxSlayer right away for 0622, since only its support team can send the link. For other codes, first rule out ordinary browser faults (outdated browser, stale cache, VPN) using TaxSlayer not working, because TaxSlayer's own troubleshooting starts there.

TaxSlayer lists phone support during tax season on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern. If you cannot get verified in time and would rather file elsewhere, remember that another product will need your prior-year AGI to sign the return; see prior-year AGI or PIN. Sign-in holds happen in other products too, as covered on Cash App Taxes not working and the FreeTaxUSA, TaxAct and other software hub.
