> TurboTax gets stuck in a loop when one entry is incomplete, a leftover form or add-on is blocking the next step, or the browser keeps replaying an old page. Note exactly where the loop happens. Payment-step loops usually clear with a fresh sign-in, cleared cache or another browser. Interview loops clear when you fix or delete the form the review keeps pointing to.

## Key facts

- Where loops happen most: File step (Review your order, Confirm payment) and Federal Review
- Tool to remove a stray form: Tax Tools, Tools, Delete a form
- Form you cannot delete: Form 1040 itself
- Clear & Start Over available: Only before you pay or register

## Why TurboTax keeps looping: find where the loop starts

A loop is TurboTax sending you back to a screen you already finished. It is not random. Something on the return, in your order or in the browser session tells TurboTax that step is still open, so it keeps returning you there.

Before trying fixes, write down three things: the name of the screen you land on, the button you pressed just before, and any message shown. That tells you which of the three loop types you have, and each has a different fix.

| Where you are sent back | Typical cause | Go to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Review your order or Confirm payment | Session, payment or product-level mismatch | Payment-step loops |
| A Federal Review or State Review item | An entry TurboTax still flags as incomplete | Interview loops |
| A topic that says come back later | A form not yet final for the season | Forms not yet available |

Three kinds of TurboTax loops

## TurboTax stuck on Review your order or Confirm payment

The most reported TurboTax loop is in the File section. You select Start or Confirm payment on Review your order and land back on the same screen. Community reports on Intuit's forum point to a stale session or a problem with the order itself rather than with the tax return.

1. Sign out of TurboTax completely, close every browser window, and sign back in. A fresh session often clears the payment step on its own.
2. Clear cookies and cache for intuit.com, then retry. If you use extensions, try a private window, where most are switched off.
3. Try a different supported browser, or finish the File step in the TurboTax app on your phone.
4. Read every line of the order. Look for an add-on you did not intend to buy or a product level you did not choose, then remove or accept it on purpose.
5. If you chose to pay the TurboTax fee from your federal refund, try paying by card instead, or the reverse. A problem with one payment path does not always affect the other.
6. Go back through Federal Review, then State Review, then the final check of your personal information, one at a time, so no hidden open item remains.

> **Do not keep clicking Confirm payment:** If you see a charge pending on your card but TurboTax still shows Review your order, stop and check your email for a receipt before trying again. Repeated attempts on a looping payment screen can create duplicate authorizations that take days to drop off.

## TurboTax stuck in a loop inside an interview section

Interview loops happen when a question keeps reappearing or Federal Review keeps flagging the same item after you fix it. The flag usually names a worksheet and a field, for example a W-2 with an empty box 1 or a dependent missing a required answer.

1. Use the search bar at the top of the return and type the form or topic name, such as W-2 or 1099-INT. Select the Jump to link to go straight to that topic's summary screen.
2. Open each copy of the form on the summary. Loops often come from a second, nearly blank copy created by an accidental Add another.
3. Delete the extra copy with the trash can icon on the summary screen, then rerun Federal Review.
4. If the flag points to a field you never saw, answer every question on that form's screens again instead of skipping with Continue.
5. Rerun Federal Review after each change so you know which fix worked.

The separate guide on [TurboTax needs review flags](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-online/turbotax-needs-review) lists the flags people see most and the field each one refers to.

## Clearing a stuck entry with Tools and Delete a form

When the summary screen does not show the form causing the loop, Intuit's Tool Center can. It lists every form, schedule and worksheet on the return, including ones created in the background.

1. From Tax Home, select Start, Continue or Pick up where you left off to open the return.
2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools, then Tools.
3. In the Tool Center window, select Delete a form.
4. Find the form or worksheet named in the review flag and select Delete next to it.
5. Return to the topic, re-enter the information once, and run Federal Review again.

Intuit warns that deleting a form you actually need can create new problems, and Form 1040 cannot be deleted. If the return is badly tangled and you have not yet paid or registered, Clear & Start Over under Tax Tools is the last resort. The guide on [how to start over in TurboTax](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-online/turbotax-start-over) explains what it erases.

## When the loop is a form that is not ready yet

Early in the filing season some forms are not final. TurboTax may let you start a topic and then keep sending you back, or show a message that the form will be available later. This is not a fault; the software is waiting for the final form.

The tax year 2026 editions of TurboTax, for returns filed in 2027, do not have a release date yet. New editions usually arrive in late fall, and some forms are not finished until January or later. If a topic loops in January or early February, skip it and come back once Intuit marks the form ready.

> **Keep a note:** Write down which topics you skipped. When you come back, go to each one through the search bar and Jump to link before running Federal Review, so nothing is filed half done.

If TurboTax will not load at all rather than looping, the [TurboTax not working overview](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-online) sorts outages from browser faults.

## Step by step

1. **Identify the loop location.** Note the screen name, the button you pressed and any message.
2. **Reset the session.** Sign out, close the browser, clear intuit.com cookies and sign back in.
3. **Find the flagged form.** Search the form name, use Jump to, and check for blank duplicates.
4. **Delete the stray entry.** Use Tax Tools, Tools, Delete a form for the form or worksheet causing the loop.
5. **Rerun review and retry.** Run Federal Review, then State Review, then continue to File.

## Common questions

### Why does TurboTax keep taking me back to the same screen?

TurboTax believes something on that screen or a related form is still incomplete. Check each copy of the form on its summary screen for a blank duplicate, delete it, and rerun Federal Review.

### How do I get past Review your order in TurboTax?

Sign out, close the browser, clear intuit.com cookies and sign in again, or try a second browser or the mobile app. Also check the order for an unexpected add-on and try the other payment method.

### Will clearing my cache erase my TurboTax return?

No. TurboTax Online saves entries to your account. Clearing the cache only removes browser files and signs you out.

### Can I delete a form that keeps causing a TurboTax loop?

Yes, through Tax Tools, Tools, Delete a form, as long as it is not Form 1040. Only delete forms you do not need, then re-enter the correct information.

### Why is TurboTax looping on a form in January?

The form may not be final yet. TurboTax holds some forms until the IRS or state finishes them; skip the topic and return once it is marked available.
