> TurboTax Canada locked forms are CRA or Revenu Quebec forms that Intuit has not finished testing after late government changes, so you can enter data but cannot file. In the 2025 season Intuit expected most to be ready by early March and Form T1229 by early April. Online users are notified when filing opens; Desktop users must run Check for Updates.

## Key facts

- 2025 season: most locked forms ready: Early March (Intuit estimate)
- 2025 season: Form T1229: Early April (Intuit estimate)
- 2025 season: TP-726.7: April 1, Online only (Intuit estimate)
- Desktop action: Run Check for Updates before filing
- 2027 season locked forms: Not yet announced

## Why are some forms locked in TurboTax Canada?

TurboTax Canada locked forms are forms that the CRA or Revenu Quebec changed late in the season, which Intuit then holds back from filing until it has tested the new version. Intuit Canada's explanation is that late government changes temporarily locked specific forms and that it chose accuracy testing over speed ([TurboTax Canada, locked forms](https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tips/what-you-need-to-know-about-cra-locked-forms)).

A locked form does not stop you from working. You can enter every slip, expense and amount on it. What you cannot do is print a final copy, save it for filing or send it by NETFILE until the form is released.

## Which forms were locked, and when did they open?

For the 2025 filing season (2024 returns), Intuit Canada listed these locked forms. Most relate to self-employment, farming, fishing, rental income and employment expenses.

| Form | What it is for | Intuit's expected release |
| --- | --- | --- |
| T2125 | Business or professional activities | Early March |
| T2042, T2121 | Farming and fishing income | Early March |
| T776 | Rental income | Early March |
| T777 | Employment expenses | Early March |
| T1163, T1164, T1273, T1274 | AgriStability and AgriInvest | Early March |
| T1229 | Resource expenses and depletion allowance | Early April |

Forms Intuit Canada listed as locked in the 2025 season

Intuit's list also included Forms T1172 and T1175 and nine Revenu Quebec forms, among them TP-80 for business income, TP-128 for rental income and TP-59 for employment expenses. It expected TP-726.7 on April 1, in TurboTax Online only. In the TurboTax Canada community, Intuit moderators later reported that all 2024 forms were available as of March 20, 2025.

Which forms will be locked in the 2027 season, for 2026 returns, is not yet announced. It depends on what the CRA and Revenu Quebec change after the software ships, so no list exists until early in the season.

## When do locked forms open, and how do I check their status?

Locked forms open on Intuit's schedule, not on the CRA's NETFILE opening date. In 2026 NETFILE itself opened on February 23 at 6:00 a.m. Eastern ([Canada.ca, NETFILE eligibility](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/e-services-individuals/netfile-overview/eligibility.html)), yet a return using a locked form can still be blocked after that date.

1. Run the review in TurboTax. It names any locked or not-ready form your return uses.
2. Check Intuit Canada's locked forms page, which lists each form and its expected date during the season.
3. Online: wait for Intuit's notice that you can finish and file. If the change does not appear, clear the browser cache and cookies or try another browser, as Intuit suggests.
4. Desktop: run Check for Updates. Released forms arrive only through an update.

If Desktop will not update, the form stays locked on your computer even after it is released. The fix is in [TurboTax Canada update not working](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-canada/turbotax-canada-update-not-working).

## TurboTax Canada can't NETFILE: locked form or something else?

Not every NETFILE block is a locked form. When TurboTax Canada can't NETFILE a return, the review screen usually says which kind of problem it is. The common alternatives:

- **CRA exclusions.** The CRA does not accept some returns by NETFILE at all, including returns for a deceased person, bankruptcy returns and returns for deemed residents ([Canada.ca, NETFILE](https://www.canada.ca/en/services/taxes/income-tax/personal-income-tax/how-file/tax-software/send-return/netfile.html)). These go on paper.
- **Answers that trigger an exclusion.** Community answers show that a setting such as mailing address outside Canada, a non-resident status on December 31, or a self-employment province that differs from your province of residence can make TurboTax report the return as not eligible. Check the personal information section.
- **CRA maintenance.** NETFILE is closed from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Eastern daily.
- **A NETFILE rejection.** If the return was sent and came back with a number, look it up in [NETFILE error codes](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/netfile-errors).

## TurboTax Canada workers benefit error

The Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) is calculated on Schedule 6, and it produces a specific filing block that looks like a locked form but is not one. In the TurboTax Canada community, users report that TurboTax lets you override CWB amounts on Schedule 6 by hand but will not let you NETFILE a return with those overrides.

1. Remove any manual override on Schedule 6 so TurboTax calculates the CWB itself.
2. If you received Advanced Canada Workers Benefit payments, enter the RC210 slip. Community answers show it can be added from Forms view under the T-slips list if the interview did not ask for it.
3. Check the eligibility answers that feed the benefit, such as marital status and spouse's income.
4. Run the review again before filing.

If the calculation still looks wrong, do not force it with an override. The CRA reviews the CWB claim when it assesses the return, and a manual override is what blocks NETFILE.

## Filing when a form is still locked

You have three practical options when a form you need is locked. Intuit Canada's own advice is not to delay: finish the rest of the return now and file once you are notified.

| Option | When it makes sense | Trade-off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Wait for the release | Your deadline is weeks away | No extra work; filing waits on Intuit |
| File on paper | The deadline is close and the form is still locked | Slower CRA processing than NETFILE |
| Use other certified software | You need to file now and can re-enter the return | Time spent entering data twice |

Options when a TurboTax Canada form is locked

A locked form does not move the CRA's payment due date. If you expect to owe tax, you can pay the CRA before the return is filed, so waiting on a form does not have to mean paying interest.

For sign-in trouble while you wait, see [TurboTax Canada login problems](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-canada/turbotax-canada-login-problems). If you use H&R Block and the problem is the CRA connection rather than a form, see [H&R Block not connecting to CRA](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-canada/hr-block-not-connecting-to-cra). Everything else is on the [TurboTax Canada problems](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/turbotax-canada) hub.

## Common questions

### Can I enter information on a locked form in TurboTax Canada?

Yes. Intuit Canada says you can enter all your data and expenses now. You only have to wait before filing, printing a final copy or sending by NETFILE.

### When were TurboTax Canada locked forms released in 2025?

Intuit expected most to be ready by early March 2025, with Form T1229 in early April and TP-726.7 on April 1 in the online product. Intuit community moderators reported all 2024 forms available as of March 20, 2025.

### Why is my form still locked in TurboTax Desktop when Online users can file?

Desktop receives released forms through updates. Run Check for Updates; if the update fails, use the repair steps for TurboTax Canada updates or reinstall.

### Why can't I NETFILE after changing my Canada Workers Benefit on Schedule 6?

Users in the TurboTax Canada community report that TurboTax blocks NETFILE when Schedule 6 CWB amounts are overridden by hand. Remove the override and let the software calculate the benefit.

### Will a locked form make me miss the filing deadline?

It can if you wait too long. If the form is still locked close to your deadline, you can file on paper or use another certified product instead.
