> When TaxSlayer is not working, TaxSlayer's help center points first to the browser: update it (Internet Explorer is no longer supported and Chrome is recommended), go to the site directly instead of through a link, and delete cache and cookies. Missing sign-in codes, declined cards and rejected returns each have a separate fix, covered below.

## Key facts

- Browser TaxSlayer recommends: Google Chrome; Internet Explorer is not supported
- Lockout after failed sign-ins: Wait at least 10 minutes or reset the password
- Security code life: 5 minutes or until used; only the latest code works
- Cards TaxSlayer accepts for fees: US-issued Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
- Season phone support hours: Weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, per TaxSlayer

## Why is TaxSlayer not working?

TaxSlayer not working usually comes down to one of four faults: the browser session is stale or blocked, the security code (TaxSlayer calls it MFA) is not arriving, the card payment for the filing fee is being declined, or the IRS has rejected the return. TaxSlayer's consumer product runs in a web browser, so the first three are almost always fixable on your side.

A quick way to tell them apart: if the page never loads or keeps sending you back to the sign-in screen, it is a browser or network issue. If the page loads but asks for a code you cannot get, it is a sign-in issue. If everything works until checkout, it is a payment issue.

## TaxSlayer not loading or keeps logging you out

TaxSlayer's help article on logout loops lists the browser first. On Windows, it says to update to the newest browser version and notes that Internet Explorer is no longer supported; it recommends Google Chrome. Apple and Android users are told to update their browser as well.

1. Type the TaxSlayer address into the browser yourself. TaxSlayer says a saved link can cause the problem.
2. Delete cached images and files plus cookies and other site data. On most Windows browsers, Ctrl+Shift+Delete opens that screen.
3. Turn off any VPN. TaxSlayer also lists firewalls and antivirus programs as possible causes; if you disable them to finish filing, turn them back on right after.
4. On a work or public network, wait and try from a personal computer.
5. On a phone, switch Wi-Fi off and use mobile data.

If you get an email about an unrecognized device after one of these changes, TaxSlayer says that is expected. A browser update, a new IP address or a long gap since your last visit can each trigger it, and you can ignore it if the sign-in was yours.

## Why is TaxSlayer not sending my code?

TaxSlayer sends the security code to whatever you type at the sign-in screen. An email address gets the code by email, a phone number gets it by text, and a username gets it by the last method you used to verify. Many missing-code cases are simply the code going to a channel you did not check.

### TaxSlayer login not working after the code arrives

- Only the most recent code works. If you tapped Send twice, the first code is dead.
- A code is valid for 5 minutes or until used, whichever comes first, per TaxSlayer.
- If nothing arrives within 10 minutes, request a new one; TaxSlayer says codes expire after that.
- Check the spam folder for email codes and the spam or filtered texts section for SMS codes. Restarting the phone can release a stuck message.
- After too many failed attempts the account locks. Wait at least 10 minutes, or reset the password to regain access right away.

### When the phone number or email on file is wrong

If you can still receive a code by one method, sign in with it and change the other under the profile icon, then Settings, then Account Settings. If you have lost both, TaxSlayer requires its Account Recovery Request form. It says a verification link arrives by email within about 24 hours, must be opened within 48 hours, and must be finished within 30 minutes once started. On a joint account, the primary taxpayer must complete it.

One specific numbered message, error code 0622, also involves identity verification. It has its own page: [TaxSlayer error code 0622](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software/taxslayer-error-code-0622).

## TaxSlayer payment not working

TaxSlayer says a declined card is declined by your bank or card issuer, and TaxSlayer cannot approve or override it. The most common cause it names is a card issued by a bank outside the United States, which it does not accept.

| If you | Payment options TaxSlayer lists |
| --- | --- |
| Owe federal tax | US-issued Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover; prepaid debit cards from a US institution |
| Expect a federal refund | The same cards, or File & Go, which takes the fees out of the refund |
| Have a card declined | Try another US card, switch to File & Go if eligible, or call your bank |

### Error: your amount due has changed since you started the e-file process

This message appears when you edit the return after starting the filing steps. TaxSlayer's fix: open E-File in the left menu, select Continue on Products and Services, choose Edit under Sign and File Your Return, save each page, and press Sign and File on the page titled Let's get a few more details.

If the payment screen shows a numbered error code instead, write the code down before contacting support. TaxSlayer says the code tells its team whether the fault is the card, the account settings or processing.

## What if TaxSlayer rejected the return?

A rejection is not a software fault; the IRS or your state refused the submission. The Tax Home page shows each return as Created, E-filed/Sent, Rejected, Accepted or Resubmit. A Rejected status comes with a Fix Return link, and TaxSlayer charges nothing to send the corrected return.

The full walkthrough, including the prior-year AGI screen and the paper-filing fallback, is on [TaxSlayer rejected return](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software/taxslayer-rejected-return). ## How do you contact TaxSlayer support?

TaxSlayer says it offers phone and email support year-round for every package. The Help & Support tab sits in the top right once you are inside your return; click Continue from the Tax Home screen to see it. During tax season, phone hours are weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, and weekend and chat hours are listed inside the account.

Chat is only offered on the Premium and Self-Employed packages, per TaxSlayer. We do not publish company phone numbers; use the number shown inside your account so you know it is genuine.

## Common questions

### Is TaxSlayer down right now?

We have not found an official TaxSlayer status page. Load the site on a phone using mobile data with Wi-Fi off; if it works there, the fault is your computer, browser or network rather than TaxSlayer.

### Why does TaxSlayer keep kicking me out?

TaxSlayer lists an outdated browser, a bookmarked link, cached data, a VPN, a firewall or antivirus program, or a shared work network as causes. Update the browser, go to the site directly and clear cache and cookies first.

### How long is a TaxSlayer security code good for?

TaxSlayer says a code is valid for 5 minutes or until used, and only the most recently sent code is accepted. If no code shows up within 10 minutes, request another.

### Can I pay TaxSlayer with a foreign credit card?

No. TaxSlayer says it cannot accept debit or credit cards issued by foreign banks. If you expect a federal refund, File & Go can take the fees from the refund instead.

### What are TaxSlayer's password rules?

TaxSlayer requires at least eight characters with one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one number and one special character.

### Does TaxSlayer have live chat?

Chat is available on the Premium and Self-Employed packages during operating hours, according to TaxSlayer. Other packages get phone and email support.
