> Jackson Hewitt Online not working is often a login mix-up: Jackson Hewitt runs two separate accounts, and its FAQ says people who file themselves online do not need a MyJH account, which is for clients of its tax pros. Sign in at the Jackson Hewitt Online page, use its account recovery page if the password fails, then check the browser and your e-file status.

## Key facts

- Do online filers need MyJH?: No; MyJH is for filing with a Jackson Hewitt tax pro
- Password or username reset: Jackson Hewitt Online account recovery page
- MyJH lockout: 1 hour after 3 failed sign-in attempts
- Where e-file status shows: My Return page inside Jackson Hewitt Online
- Online price, 2026 season: $25 flat for federal and state, per Jackson Hewitt

## Why is Jackson Hewitt Online not working?

Jackson Hewitt Online is Jackson Hewitt's do-it-yourself filing website, separate from the company's in-office service. Most reports of it not working fall into three groups: signing in to the wrong account, a failed password or code, and a browser that will not load the filing pages. A fourth group is not a fault at all: a return waiting for the IRS to open e-file, or a rejection that needs a fix.

Start by confirming which account you have. The fixes for the online product and for MyJH are different, and a correct password for one will not work on the other.

> **Independent site:** Tax Software Desk is independent and is not affiliated with Intuit, H&R Block, TaxAct, FreeTaxUSA, TaxSlayer, Block Inc. (Cash App Taxes), Wealthsimple, UFile or any other software company, including Jackson Hewitt. Details below come from Jackson Hewitt's public pages, checked September 2026.

## Jackson Hewitt Online or MyJH: which login do you need?

Use the Jackson Hewitt Online login if you prepare your own return on the website. Jackson Hewitt's FAQ answers the question directly: you only need a MyJH account if you file with help from a tax pro, and online filers should sign in to their Jackson Hewitt Online account for help.

| | Jackson Hewitt Online | MyJH account |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who it is for | People filing their own return online | Clients of a Jackson Hewitt office or tax pro |
| Sign-in page | efile.jacksonhewitt.com/1040/signin | accounts.jacksonhewitt.com |

| Lockout rule published | None found | 1 hour after 3 failed attempts |

Jackson Hewitt's two accounts (Jackson Hewitt FAQ and product pages)

Jackson Hewitt notes the two accounts may have different usernames and passwords. If a password you are sure of keeps failing, try it on the other sign-in page before resetting anything.

## Jackson Hewitt Online login problems

Jackson Hewitt says you can reset a Jackson Hewitt Online password and username on its account recovery page, even if you no longer have access to the email address you used to create the account. Reach it from the Recover my account link in the FAQ on the online filing page, or from the sign-in screen.

1. Go to the Jackson Hewitt Online sign-in page directly, not through a search ad.
2. If the password fails once, stop and use account recovery rather than guessing again.
3. Look for the code or reset email in spam and promotions folders.
4. After signing in, open My Account to find your returns.

### If you were locked out of MyJH

Jackson Hewitt locks MyJH access for one hour after three failed sign-in attempts. Its reset sends an access code from webmaster@jacksonhewitt.com to the registered email; if email is not an option, the access code screen offers to send a new code to your mobile number.

## Is Jackson Hewitt Online down?

We have not found a public Jackson Hewitt status page, so there is no official way to confirm an outage. Test it yourself: open the sign-in page on a phone using mobile data with Wi-Fi off. If it loads there but not on your computer, the problem is on your side.

Timing can also look like an outage. Jackson Hewitt says its online service opens in early January for preparing returns, while the IRS usually starts e-file at the end of January. A return submitted before the IRS opens is held by Jackson Hewitt and sent once e-file starts, so a pending status in January is normal. The IRS opening date for the 2027 season is not yet announced; in 2026 it was January 26.

### Browser fixes when pages will not load

Jackson Hewitt has not published a browser requirements list that we could find, so use a current version of a mainstream browser and keep the operating system updated.

## How do you check filing status in Jackson Hewitt Online?

Sign in to Jackson Hewitt Online and open the My Return page, where Jackson Hewitt says the status of each e-filed return appears. It also sends status updates when the IRS acknowledgment arrives, so check the email on the account. Refund tracking is done with the IRS, not inside the product.

### If the IRS rejected the return

A frequent rejection is a prior-year AGI mismatch. Jackson Hewitt's FAQ gives a precise entry format: no symbols, decimals or spaces, nothing after the decimal point, and leading zeros to make five digits. Its example: an AGI of $1,234.56 is entered as 01234. Adding zeros after the number causes a rejection.

Last year's AGI can be found under My Account, then Account Settings, where a PDF of the prior-year return opens if you filed with Jackson Hewitt Online. For other ways to find it, see [prior-year AGI or PIN](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/efile-fixes/prior-year-agi-or-pin). IRS Publication 1345 gives five calendar days after the due date to e-file a corrected return that was first sent on time. The same fix in other products is explained on [FreeTaxUSA rejected return](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software/freetaxusa-rejected-return).

## What if nothing fixes it?

Jackson Hewitt advertises free live chat for Jackson Hewitt Online, reached through its contact page. Have the exact error text and the screen name ready. We do not publish company phone numbers; use the contact details on Jackson Hewitt's own site.

If the deadline is close, you can move to another product; each one will ask for last year's AGI to sign. The [FreeTaxUSA, TaxAct and other software hub](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software) covers alternatives, [FreeTaxUSA login problems](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software/freetaxusa-login-problems) shows how a different product handles sign-in codes, and [Cash App Taxes not working](https://taxsoftwaredesk.com/other-us-software/cash-app-taxes-not-working) covers a free option with its own sign-in rules.

## Common questions

### Do I need a MyJH account to use Jackson Hewitt Online?

No. Jackson Hewitt says MyJH is only needed if you file with a Jackson Hewitt tax pro. Online filers sign in to their Jackson Hewitt Online account.

### How do I reset my Jackson Hewitt Online password?

Use the account recovery page for Jackson Hewitt Online. Jackson Hewitt says it resets both the password and the username, even if you no longer use the email address the account was created with.

### Where is my old return from Jackson Hewitt Online?

Returns filed online after 2018 are in your Jackson Hewitt Online account. Online returns from before 2018, and any return prepared by a Jackson Hewitt tax pro, are in MyJH.

### How much does Jackson Hewitt Online cost?

For the 2026 season Jackson Hewitt advertised a $25 flat fee for federal and state filing. Paying from your refund through eCollect carries an extra fee. Pricing for the 2027 season has not been announced.
